In Vol. 3, ibid, p. 478, in "Lt. Col. George H. Nixon’s Reg’t Miss. Militia, War of 1812", the name Littleton Seals appears. According to a letter from Ernest T. Jackson dated 5 Feb. 1959, Littleton Seale came into the Amite Co. Miss. area with his bros. Moses and Wright, but went back east about 50 miles and settled on Pearl River near what is now Picayune Miss., Pearl River Co. His widow, Lavina, seems to be on the 1840 and 1850 census of Pike Co. Miss. Littleton appears on p. 18 of the 1820 census of Amite Co. Miss. At that time he was in the 26-45 age group and had 4 males under 10, 1 fem. 10-16 and his wife was in the 26-45 age group. This seems to indicate that their marriage took place in 1812 rather than 1820. Littleton has not been found on an 1830 census, but perhaps he was in Pike Co. then. This census is missing and not available. On page 160 of the census of 1840, Pike Co, Levinia Seal is age 50-6. Also in the household are 1 male 15-20, 2 males 10-30, 1 fem. 10-15, 7 slaves, and 3 in agriculture. On the 1850 census of Pike Co. Miss., page 2 (pr) the 1st. Police District, 30 Aug. is found:
17/17 Jilson Y. Seals 31 m farmer $200 Miss.
Temperance 31 fem. Miss.
Lavinia 65 fem. S.C.
Nancy A. Ellzey 6 fem. Miss.
This would appear to be Littleton's widow living with a married son, but if so, this son is not named in Littleton's will. Littleton Seale seems to have moved from Pike Co. Miss. to Pike Co. Ala. where his will is filed and recorder on Book A. page 37. It was signed 3 July, 1850, but Littleton does not appear there on the 1850 census.

Note: This was sent by Ben Reeves, Judge of Probate, Pike Co. Ala. As sent, it was a typed, certified copy. Perhaps the above errors are typographical; perhaps they were made by the person who transcribed the original will into Will Book A; or perhaps they actually appear in the original will: there is no way of knowing. The date the will was probated was not given.

The 1860 census of Pike Co. Ala. shows a listing which could be Littleton's son James. It appears on p. 38, P.O. Hal1sville Western Division of Pike Co. Ala. June 25, 1860.
James M. (or W.) Seale 53 (?) m farmer $1000 $2000 Ga.
Ann M. 46 f Ga.
Sterling J. 14 m Ga.
John G.S. 11 m Ga.
Mary J.B. 5 f Ga.
If Levina Williams was Littleton's 1st wife, and if they were married in 1812, then the above James M. Seale would be a bit too old. Littleton Seale could have been married prior to his marriage to Lavinia but if so, no record has been found of such a marriage. On p 70 of this same census, P.0. China Grove, Western Division July 19 (living with a Moore family) 463/463, we find James D. Seale, age 24, overseer, born in Ga. This could be Littleton's son by his wife Lavinia Williams.
According to the before-mentioned Amite Co. book, Vol.1, p. 313 "Land Records-Conveyances, Book 1", Littleton Seale is listed as grantor of land to his brother, Moses Seale, 20 Aug. 1838. Perhaps this is when he left Amite Co. Miss.

Moses Seale and Jane Cain Seale moved with their parents from Ga. to Miss. about 1807. Moses gave the land for the Zion Hill Baptist Church which he helped to organize about 1811. This was part of the land he had homesteaded. He was one of the 1st of seven ordained Baptist ministers in the state of Miss. and helped to organize the Spring Hill Baptist Church at Knoxville, Miss. in 1842. He served Baptist churches in Amite and Franklins Co. He was also a constable in Amite Co, Miss. 1818-1824. Much interesting data can be found in the 3 volumes of "Amite Co. Miss., 1699-1865" by Albert E. Casey and Francis Powell Otken. Moses' wife Jane Cain was sister to Nancy Cain who married Wright Seale. Moses Seale is found on p. 28 of the 1820 census of Amite Co. Miss. He is in the 26-45 age group and has 1 male 10-16 and 4 males under 10. His wife also in the 26-45 age group. No Seale found in the 1840 census of Amite Co., though likely Moses and bros. Wright and Littleton should be there. Moses appears on the 1840 census of Amite Co, on p. 49. He is age 40-50 and has 2 males 20-30; 3 males 15-20; and 1 male 10-15. His wife is age 40-50 and there are 2 females aged 10-15. Family tradition is that Moses and Jane seperated about 1845. (More later). He appears on the 1850 census in Franklin Co. Miss. p 17 28 Sept. in the home of Charles Stewart, aged 47, a farmer b S.C. whose wife was Cinthia aged 39? b Tenn. Also in the household were 8 Stewart children and Edward Gladdin aged 35 or 37, an overseer, b Delaware. Moses is aged 60, a Baptist minister, b in Ga. The 1850 census of Victoria Co. JOHN SEALE
John Seale, 3rd son of Moses and Jane Cain Seale b 9 July 1817 d Lavaca Co. Tex. 20 Dec. 1858. Married probably Elizabeth C. Stokes of East Feliciana Parish La. there being a marriage record of her to a John Seale on 29 July 1837.
The 1860 census of tiavaca Co. Tex. of Seale family:

Allen (G.C.) 18 m Miss.
Amelia (M) 13 f Miss.
Laura 12 f Miss.
Ann 8 f Miss.
Mary 3 f Miss.
The birthplaces are doubtful since the family was in Victoria Co. Tex. in 1850. Ann surely was born in Tex. The 1850 census says that Laura was born in La. According to deeds, John and wife Elizabeth were in Victoria Co. Tex. as late as 6 Dec. 1852. Tax rools in Lavaca Co. Tex. show he began paying taxes there in 1855 when he paid taxes on 3 horses and 30 cattle. In 1856 he paid taxes on 278 acres on the Navidad River, 150 cattle and miscellanous property. He died there intestate 20 Dec.1858.
-24-
In 1895 Mrs. Elizabeth Seale was paying taxes on the same 278 acres, likewise in 1860 and 1861. No Seale listings in 1862 or 1863 tax roll Lavaca Co., but in 1864 (Adison) Byron Seale is paying taxes on appears to be 50 acres of the same property. John's widow Elizabeth married David B. Scarbrough and he paid taxes that year on 228 acres of the same tract. The 1870 census of Brazos Co. Tex. shows page 49 (pr); page 96 (wr); August 6 P.O. Bryan

He served in Capt. Strobel's Company in in Lavaca Co. Tex. This was the 8th Texas Calvary and affectionately known as Terry's Texas Rangers. He died at Nashville but no date given. Daughter Amelia M. Seale married George W. Scarbrough in Lavaca Co. Feb.21, 1861 at the residence of Mrs. E. Seale. The marriage performed by W.H. Rutherford, minister of the Christian Church. Emma’s marriage to George Dawson Charlton is recorded in Matagorda Texas, Book A page 278 as being performed in 1876, however in lineage book of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Emma Seale married George Dawson on 12 Aug. 1877. It lists her as being born 20 Dec. 1857 in Victoria Co. Tex., d 3 Sept.1920 in San Marco Co. Tex. They had at least one dau, Stella May Charlton, born in Brazoria Co. She and John McMillan married after he returned from the War of 1812. Their family is given later, with his pension records and family Bible records. They raised a large family in the Franklin and Amite Co. area and when Elijah married Elizabeth Ann, her brothers helped Elijah build the home where all his 14 children were born and raised.
